International Speech & Table Topics Contest 2012 (updated)

Dear Fellow Toastmasters,

Warm greetings from the desk of your LGET!

Six (6) months of our term have flown past in a blink of an eye, but we still have another six (6) months to serve these months out. Let’s us pause to reflect on our achievements and perhaps correct our course that our goals we had set at the beginning of our term are achieved. If you have the passion to achieve, you will certainly be passionate of the outcome.

TLI 2 has already begun in December 2011 with some of the divisions, and it will continue right through January 2012 with others. Make full use of the trainings not only to receive, but to give, share and to thrive.

Come January 2012, a new season of speech contests begins, the International Speech & Table Topics Contests. However please note only the International Speech Contest will go beyond our shores to Orlando, USA in August 2012 where a new world champion emerge. Who shall the person be? We don’t know yet but who knows as that person could well be from District 51!

For now let’s focus on getting our act together in organizing quality speech contests.

Meanwhile I have taken the liberty of attaching the latest rule book 2012 and the key changes for your scrutiny. Please browse through and be thoroughly comfortable with them to ensure the contests are run properly with strict compliance to the rules.

District 51 also wishes to confirm that for the International Speech & Table Topics Contests the following rule will continue to apply:

  • Areas with 4 clubs or less – 2 contestants from each Club
  • Areas with 5 clubs and above – 1 contestant from each club
  • Divisions with 4 Areas or less – 2 contestants from each Area
  • Divisions with 5 areas and above – 1 contestant from each area
  • District 51 contest – 1 contestant from each Division (10 Divisions in total as the other 2 Divisions are Mandarin Divisions)

Please note that:

As the District 51 contest is on 29th April 2012 (Sunday), please strive to get all Division contests concluded latest by the 8th April 2012. This is to enable the Division Champions to have at least 3 weeks to prepare for the District final on 29th April 2012.

The District 51 Annual Convention is 27th-29th April 2012 at Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre in KL. If you have yet to register for the KL Convention, please do so now. The Convention Chair is our past Division B Governor Irene Lee, ATM-S (019-3150878).

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact or call me.

Best wishes to all as you move into the new season of contest.

Message from LGET

Dear Division Governors & Area Governors,

By now I would assume that you have warm your seats enough to embark on more challenging tasks ahead that are coming your way.

It was indeed a great pleasure to have met quite a number of you at the recent TLI sessions the last couple of weeks. I hope we have been fruitful with the sessions that we have shared with you. Please use the acquired tools to assist the club leaders in shaping their clubs and leading them towards their goals in the Distinguished Club Program.

TLI aside, we now entering the contest season and perhaps some clubs may have already commenced their club contests and we would want you as the district officers to be ready with answers should questions arise concerning contest rules and regulations. Please be conversant with the contest rules and ensure that they are strictly adhered to, when the contests are conducted. No shortcuts or violations of the rules should be entertained or even encouraged. If you are not clear, seek guidance from us, if not the contest rulebooks would be your best bet.
